Watch College Students Address a Sexual Assault Allegation in ‘Guilty’ Trailer
The Netflix film starring Kiara Advani delves into class and gender conflict in the college campus
(*Trigger Warning: alleged sexual assault, victim blaming)
Netflix dropped the trailer for the upcoming film Guilty earlier today. Directed by Ruchi Narain (Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow), the campus drama delves into the story of Tanu (Akansha Ranjan Kapoor), a small-town woman, who accuses VJ (Gurfateh Pirzada), a rock band frontman and college sweetheart, of sexual assault.
The clip opens with fellow student Nanki (Kiara Advani) taking shuddering breaths on the metro. “VJ, Tashi, Hardy, that’s my tribe. We were having the time of our lives. Until…,” she says about her bandmates at St. Martin’s. “This story is of the darkest night of our lives,” she intones. Scenes of camaraderie, partying and brawling flash past as we’re introduced to the gender, class and linguistic dynamics that play out on campus. When Tanu accuses VJ of sexual assault, all hell breaks lose for the three characters as they each grapple with their versions of the truth, all while a lawyer tries to piece together what actually happened on the night of Valentine’s day.
The film is written by Atika Chohan (Chhapaak, Margarita with a Straw) and Kanika Dhillon (Manmarziyaan, Kedarnath) and is set to be released on March 6th, 2020.
