Watch David Bowie’s Unsettling ‘Lazarus’ Video

David Bowie has released the video of the album’s second single “Lazarus”.

With only one day to go for his highly anticipated album, ★ to hit the stores, English glam rock legend David Bowie has released the video of the album’s second single “Lazarus.”

Directed by Johan Renck, who also worked on the haunting video for “Blackstar,” “Lazarus” finds Bowie’s Blind Prophet character in a hospital room recovering from the events that took place previously. The video shows Bowie struggling to free himself from the hospital bed, as well as him emerging from a closet to write down what seems to be a memoir before disappearing into the closet again at the end.

Complete with jerking dance movements and a black-and-white striped outfit that is reminiscent of his Seventies’ ”˜Thin White Duke’ persona, “Lazarus” is the signature Bowie track with ample charm and eccentricity to keep it appealingly creepy.

“One could only dream about collaborating with a mind like that; let alone twice,” said Renck about Bowie in a press statement. He added, “Intuitive, playful, mysterious and profound… I have no desire to do any more videos knowing the process never ever gets as formidable and fulfilling as this was. I’ve basically touched the sun.”

A spine-tingling rock ballad, “Lazarus” introduces Bowie’s artistic peculiarity to a generation that never knew the brilliance of Ziggy Stardust.
