Members of Jaipur metal band Demigod had moved out to different cities over the last couple of years and the pandemic kept them further apart, right until things got just about good enough to shoot their latest music video “Streams.”

The modern metal juggernaut of a song – taken from their upcoming EP Repulse – shines a light on an energized and emphatic five-member band. Keyboardist and lyricist Sanskriti Mathur says they shot the video for “Streams” in February this year, with bassist Ayush Saxena coming in from Dubai, while she’s been living in New Delhi, as is the case with guitarist Rishabh Upadhyay. Vocalist Ravneet Singh and drummer Ayush Sharma, based in Jaipur, welcomed them back. Mathur adds, “More than just a band, Demigod is more like a group of very close friends, and we often hang out together apart from music. The video brought us all together after a year, and it was an amazing feeling. Getting to see each other again and doing what we love was ecstatic, and we are glad that we decided to move forward with a video. Initially, we thought to just release the track with our artwork, but we were all itching to get a music video done, so we went ahead with it.”

Demigod’s intensity isn’t just for when the camera rolls, as is evident on their fist-tight new metalcore song which tips its hat to bands like Born of Osiris and ERRA, right down to its face-to-the-floor closing breakdown. Written in 2019 and road-tested at gigs (including virtual shows), the band created “Streams” remotely over the span of about six months, with members recording on home setups and sending the track stems to Upadhyay, who helmed production duties.

Repulse is slated for release later this year and will be followed by a full-length album. “So all the good stuff is on your way,” Mathur adds.
