Chasing dreams brought New Delhi rapper Dhruv Rajpal aka D₹V from the capital to Mumbai, a city that he professes love for on “Bombay,” produced by Mumbai-based Tannerwell aka Kunal Bharadwaj.

The two-minute track keeps it light but lets Rajpal get a lot off his chest, from references to Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan to Mumbai’s landmark stretch of Marine Drive. He raps in his signature glitchy croon, “Pasand rehna low key, fuck being famous/Sippin’ on Bombay, Gaane saare bomb hai.” Tannerwell’s production aids the club-friendly vibe of the track, burying percussive flair behind thumping beats as well as dreamy melodies.

In a statement released with the song, the duo describe “Bombay” as the story of an artist chasing his dreams and reaching closer living that life. “’Bombay’ is a modern version of a very classic Bombay-Delhi connection, from the view point of two young hustlers who are turning their dreams into reality step-by-step. The song also has a commercial yet very aesthetic flavor to it in the Delhi lingo.” The producer adds that the beat was originally meant for a “major international collaboration,” but Rajpal’s voice made him tap the rapper for “Bombay.”

While Rajpal just released his new three-track EP UNLOCK, Tannerwell is working on his debut hip-hop album.
