The brand new trailer for the highly-anticipated Captain Marvel dropped today, giving audiences a glimpse of what’s in store when it comes to Marvel Studios’ first standalone female superhero film. The Marvel Cinematic Universe takes us back to the Nineties to introduce the latest addition to their superhero roster.
Slated for a March 2019 release, Captain Marvel stars Oscar winner Brie Larson in the title role, Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury with Jude Law and Lee Pace.
Based on the popular comic book series, Captain Marvel follows the life of Carol Danvers–a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot–as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes and joins Starforce, an elite Kree military team. Danvers’ real dilemma begins when she returns to Earth with new questions about her past and identity, but is caught in the center of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.
Her existence was first hinted at within the MCU during one of the post-credit scenes of Avengers: Infinity War (2017) when Nick Fury was seen paging Danvers for help after super villain Thanos destroyed half the universe. As arguably one of the most powerful characters in Marvel Comics, it’s assumed Captain Marvel will be a key element to defeating Thanos.
