Watch GRAY Hero Hustle and Perseverance in ‘Baby Don’t Cry’

The South Korean producer joins forces with rapper Yumdda to offer solace and motivation to those trying to reach their goals

After featuring as a producer and collaborator on fellow labelmate YUGYEOM’s debut solo EP, Point of View: U, South Korean rapper and producer GRAY unveils a cinematic music video for his latest release, “Baby Don’t Cry.”

Humanizing the hustle culture through effective lyricism, “Baby Don’t Cry” goes out to those who dare to dream big. Despite overcoming the unexpected curveballs life throws at you, GRAY emphasizes the importance of never losing yourself to reality and sight of what you want.

The afrobeat hip-hop track shows GRAY living in an untidy and congested room, pondering why his hustle won’t materialize, “Why me? / Why is life testing me like this? / I have worked twice, even three times harder than others / Somebody help me / Come and hold my hand.” An unexpected tremor soon presents itself, pushing GRAY out of reality into the luxurious world he’d always dreamt of. The switch in visuals supported by uplifting lyricism presents itself as a commentary on the rapper’s hard work and can-do attitude that drove him to success, “Baby don’t cry/ You gotta keep ya head high up/ Baby don’t cry / I hope you got ya head up yeah / Everything’s gonna be alright.”

As the video concludes, reality comes knocking on the door, pulling GRAY out of his dream world. Now dressed as waiters, GRAY and Yumdda find themselves in a restaurant and are startled by a group of women running towards them. Inquisitive of what created the commotion, the artists walk towards a wooden door. Peering through the door, they find the successful versions of themselves, with Yummda rapping, “GRAY, we riddin’ Bentley’s now.”

GRAY, who had last released his single “Connected” in May of this year, will be returning as a producer on the popular South Korean rap competition Show Me The Money Season 10 after nearly five years.
