Green Day performed their poignant new song “Still Breathing” Tuesday on The Late Show.

Host Stephen Colbert passed off the introduction duties to an animated God, hovering in the ceiling, who introduced the punk rockers as his “favorite band.” In the hard-hitting performance, Billie Joe Armstrong alternated between smooth verse crooning and raw chorus shrieks as lights flashed behind Tré Cool’s drum set.

“Still Breathing” is the second single from Green Day’s 12th album, last year’s Revolution Radio. The band is currently touring behind the LP, with dates scheduled until April 8th. Then, following a break, they’ll resume the trek in August and September.

On Sunday, Green Day paid tribute to the late Chuck Berry with a live rendition of his signature track “Johnny B. Goode” in London, Ontario. In January, the band marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day ”“ and criticized President Trump ”“ with a lyric video for Revolution Radio song “Troubled Times.”

Billie Joe Armstrong invited a disabled fan to play guitar with Green Day during the group’s show in London.
