Clip features scenes from the movie
Halsey reworked last year’s Badlands LP song, “Castle,” for The Huntsman: Winter’s War film and the video for the new version has been released.
As with her first live performance of the tweaked track during the MTV Movie Awards, the clip features a more orchestral music approach than the original synth-laced one. The video features scenes from the Snow White-based fairytale sequel, which stars Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain, along with a bit of dialog from the film.
However, Halsey is also a main character in the video, where she acts as an observer to the proceedings. Wearing a gold gown and crown, she watches the film scenes, many of which mirror lyrics to her song, as she elegantly sings and moves to the emotions conveyed.
The singer recently spoke to Rolling Stone about her songwriting approach and the malleability of genres. “Genre in 2016 is just absolute bullshit. Half the records on hip-hop radio are pop records at their core, and half the records in fucking alternative radio are pop. And pop radio doesn’t even know what the fuck it’s doing,” she said. “I end up pleading my case to alternative programmers ”” you’re telling me that my music is too dark for pop, too pop for alternative, and urban radio won’t touch it ”” so we have a record that doesn’t fit in. And what is more alternative than that?”
