Watch Highlights From Guns N’ Roses’ Las Vegas Concert

Band plays "Coma" for first time since 1993 as Axl Rose performs while sitting in Dave Grohl's throne after fracturing his foot

A week after Guns N’ Roses reunited with a surprise small club gig at Los Angeles’ Troubadour, the band’s Not in This Lifetime tour formally kicked off Friday night with a concert at Las Vegas’ just-opened T-Mobile Arena.

Rose performed the gig sitting atop a giant metal throne since, prior to the concert, Guns N’ Roses announced the serious damage Rose did to his foot during the Troubadour gig and noted that the band’s reunion shows were being redesigned to “reduce the weight” he put on his foot.

The situation was similar to when Dave Grohl, nursing a fractured leg, was forced to perform in a throne during Foo Fighters’ tour. At the tail end of the GN’R gig, it was revealed that Rose had actually borrowed the same prop from the Foo Fighters, as the band’s “FF” emblem was spotted under a piece of covering.

The only time Rose wasn’t confined to Grohl’s throne was when he was seated behind his piano, as on the band’s epic “November Rain,” which the singer played alongside Slash for the first time live since Guns N’ Roses’ Use Your Illusion tour-ending concert in Buenos Aires on July 17th, 1993, the “classic” lineup’s final gig until their recent reunion.

In addition to Slash’s debut turn on Chinese Democracy‘s “This I Love” and instrumental covers of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” and Derek and the Dominoes’ “Layla,” Guns N’ Roses unleashed one more surprise on fans: The first performance of Use Your Illusion I closer “Coma” by any GN’R lineup since April 1993. “This is a happy song, taking you to that happy place,” Rose prefaced before the unexpected “Coma.”
