Watch: Indus Creed’s New Single “Thief”

The Mumbai-based rock band jam on their riff-heavy new track

Published by

The latest from rock band Indus Creed continues their prog rock-leaning sound, showcased on their 2012 album Evolve. Their first single since Evolve, “Thief” clocks in at over five minutes with guitarist Mahesh Tinaikar, bassist Krishna Jhaveri [from prog metal band Skyharbor] and drummer Jai Row Kavi delivering some heavy-duty riffage.

The music video for the single, which aired on TV before it went online, was shot by Mumbai director Arnab Choudhary, featuring the members jamming. Frontman Uday Benegal had told us earlier that the band plans to release at least one new single every six weeks. Benegal added that videos might just accompany every single. Says Benegal, “We’re not looking at big budget videos.”

There’s also a hint in the opening lines sung by Benegal in “Thief” about the band’s next single, which is called “Paper Walls.” Recorded at veteran drummer Ranjit Barot’s Nirvana Studio in Mumbai last month, Benegal says “Paper Walls” is mellower than “Thief,” but still in the same zone. The frontman adds that he, Tinaikar and keyboardist Zubin Balaporia are working on new ideas but will only return to the studio after their set at the Ziro Festival of Music in Arunachal Pradesh this week. Says Benegal, “I’m drawing on the experiences I had last year in terms of relationships, although not necessarily romantic ones. The nice thing about doing it [writing songs based on experiences] a year later is that you have more distance and more calmness to go about it.”
