The duo debuted the track in 2022 at a performance in Thailand
Mind games are everyone’s least favorite games. Perplexing, exhausting and exasperating, they can undoubtedly take a toll on anyone, especially those in a relationship. Tapping into these emotions, popstar Jackson Wang and rising Thai rapper Milli have unveiled the music video for their 2022 collaborative single “Mind Games.” The duo debuted the track in July last year during Wang’s performance before the Bangkok Century Cup exhibition match. The track was officially released on August 19th via 88rising.
Written by Grammy-nominated Gallant and produced by Stint and Monsters & Strangers, “Mind Games” is a contemporary R&B track, accentuating Wang and Milli’s low-register vocal performances. Exhausted by ceaseless mind games, the singers represent two partners in a relationship searching for answers: “Middle of the night, askin’ why/ I’ve been thinking twice for so long/ Playin’ mind/ Playin’ mind games.”
The music video sees Wang and Milli circling in a maze, unable to track each other down. Despite being in close proximity, the two seem to miss each other, symbolizing the track’s lyricism. The idea of the maze was first seen in the track’s artwork which featured the single’s title, loosely resembling the paths you’d find in a maze art.
2022 was an eventful year for both Wang and Millie. The GOT7 member released his acclaimed solo album, Magic Man, and received rave reviews about it. “Blow,” the pre-release single off the album, ranked 82 on Rolling Stone India’s 100 Best International Songs of 2022 list. Though the multi-hyphenated artist has released a mixtape (Lost&Found) and his first solo album (Mirrors), Magic Man marked Wang’s first album release following GOT7’s decision to walk away from JYP Entertainment. On December 31st, 2022, Wang released his digital single “Why.” On the other hand, the Thai rapper released her long-awaited debut album, Babb Bum Bum. Milli also formed the girl group Minus – a highly ambitious and exciting project where all four members are Milli. Both Wang and Milli also performed at last year’s Coachella.
