Watch Jackson Wang Walk Us Through His Life in the Latest Self-Titled Single

The single follows the multifaceted artist's July 2021 solo release 'Drive You Home'

Global pop icon and GOT7 member Jackson Wang reminisces the highs and lows of his illustrious career thus far in the latest single “Jackson Wang.”

Written and composed by Wang, the single takes a look at the hidden chapters of his life, revealing the story of a dreamer who preserved and hustled to fulfill his vision; “Looking up I’m still going for the same dream/ I was holding to a fencing sword and it became a microphone now.” Wang (who also plays a vital role in the creative direction and production of the music video) tells his story through a symbolic animated video, peppered with key milestones from his life such as leaving his hometown, his time with JYP Entertainment, the restaurant that helped him cure his homesickness, and TEAM WANG, as he nonchalantly walks across them.

The lofi-hip hop single opens with the light strumming sound of the guitar to create a mild melancholic mood, which lingers on until the very end of the track. Wang maintains the somber atmosphere through the gradual introduction of mellow synth as he raps; “Taking my path step by step, it ain’t so bad/ When you get used to it, it ain’t so sad.”

As his story unfolds, we get to see a vulnerable and honest side of the artist as he opens up about the hardships he faced when he moved to South Korea at the age of 17 to train under JYP Entertainment. From homesickness, self-doubt to Wang’s unwavering diligence and respect for his work, “Jackson Wang” is an honest tell-a-tale about a young dreamer from Hong Kong who burned the midnight oil to become the Jackson Wang — the global pop icon we know today.

Though a majority of the track focuses on his past, we get a glimpse into Wang’s future and the goal he’s currently working towards, “TEAM WANG PANTHEPACK TWD/ East and the West connecting all the dots culturally.” While the fencer in him may have turned into a pop star, Wang is just as determined, focused and inspired as he was when he first started his journey in the entertainment world.

Wang first rose to global fame as a member of one of K-pop’s biggest groups, GOT7. Amongst the many hats he wears as a rapper, singer, songwriter and producer, Wang is also the founder of his very own music label TEAM WANG, currently headquartered in China. Upon GOT7’s departure from JYP Entertainment earlier last year, Wang flew back to China and is currently being promoted as a solo artist and a member of the Chinese collective PANTHEPACK (also signed under TEAM WANG). To expand his presence and business activities, the artist has also entered an exclusive partnership with Sublime Entertainment in South Korea.
