South Korean singer-songwriter JAMIE deals with the aftermath of a terrible break-up in her latest single “Pity Party.” The single follows the singer’s September 15th, 2021 release “No Numbers” featuring Korean-American rapper JMIN.
Written and composed by RYAN JHUN, Sean Fischer, Paris Carney, Alida Garpestad Peck, “Pity Party” sees JAMIE blow a bitter goodbye kiss to her former lovers as she finds the cure to her sadness at the bottom of a Bacardi bottle: “I’ll throw myself a pity party (party)/ Uuh, double shots lemon Bacardi (for me)/ I’m feeling sad, I’m spiral falling.” The track largely dissects the final stages of a break-up before an epiphany kicks in, pushing you to transform pain into strength; “Go, break my heart/ Yeah I’m thriving off the drama/ Ooh, when I’m low/ Then I’m rising even stronger.”
The single brews a delicious and refreshing concoction of disco synth and percussion arrangement, categorizing “Pity Party” as a (potential) certified pop extravagance. JAMIE does a commendable job at embodying the rebellious overtones of the track through a powerful, luxurious vocal performance, underlined by the singer’s signature resonant vocalizations.
The music video sees the singer execute the perfect revenge plan as she invites a former lover over to her party. Shot inside a regal mansion, JAMIE discreetly spikes her former lover’s drink, making it easier to get him to sign a few official documents. While the content of the document has not been disclosed, it seems like she tricked him into signing off his inheritance to her.
