Last month, Mumbai-bred artist Anushka Manchanda aka Kiss Nuka released a pulsating new song entitled “Dakini” that features plenty of drum and bass elements while a mesh of guitars courtesy of her brother Shikhar Yuvraj Manchanda aka Rākhis blend in exquisitely.

The song’s accompanying invigorating video stands out quite brilliantly. As Manchanda took the lead when it came to putting the visual aspect of the clip together, she enlisted her teacher Sucuri Sunil as the main protagonist in the video. Sunil, along with Manchanda, is seen performing the mesmerizing martial art of Capoeira, shot in the scenic region of Mulshi, Maharashtra by cinematographer Sachin Pillai.

Manchanda says, “My expression of ‘Dakini’ celebrates the power of femininity, the importance of inner engineering, the potential it has for heightened awareness and awakening. Embodying different characteristics of the dakinis from Tibetan culture.”

The artist further says, “I am hoping to tell a story that evokes the feminine energy of the ‘sky dancer’ through movement and music.” Sunil adds, “Capoeira is dance, a fight, it is culture and creativity. It is an art of transformation, born from the struggle for liberation, empowerment and self-determination. This resonates with the essence of the feminine and endorses the spirit of the dakinis.”
