Watch: Mad Orange Fireworks’ Epic Scale ‘Gun To My Head’

The Bengaluru rock band kick off a new video series called No Budget at city-based Third Eye Recording Studios

It’s been more than three years since the release of Bengaluru rock band Mad Orange Fireworks’ second album Under the Orange Sky but vocalist-guitarist Michael Antony Dias is not rushing their third record. While they were figuring out how to put out their latest track “Gun To My Head,” they were approached by Third Eye Recording Studios for a new performance video series called (rather unashamedly) No Budget.

Dias adds, “When Third Eye Studios approached us with the idea of doing a live audio and video recording we jumped right into it.” Studio engineers Santhos Nataraja and Erwick D’Souza worked with cameras and mics to launch No Budget, and are now accepting demos from bands for future episodes. Dias adds, “He [Nataraja] wanted to try recording us live to capture the band’s energy just the way it was delivered.”

Born out of a riff that bassist Kaushik Kumar wrote sometime in 2017,  “Gun To My Head” is peppy rock that also takes it up a few notches to become grand scale, featuring drummer Dharvish P.K. and guitarist Ramanan Chandramouli. While Chandramouli brings springing guitar lines to the live performance of the track, Mad Orange Fireworks has since subbed in guitarist Pradip Ramanathan in their latest lineup.

“Gun To My Head” deals with control issues in a “complicated relationship” and Dias says a lot of their new material has a “more spiritual and maybe philosophical direction.” He adds, “There are songs about overcoming fear, coming to terms with oneself, acceptance and a touch of the hopeless romantic. We have a good set of songs that we want to release as soon as possible.”
