The special project comes just eight days after the release of Moonbyul’s collaborative single 'G999' with Mirani
South Korean singer-songwriter, rapper and MAMAMOO member Moonbyul celebrates her birthday in style with her fans in her latest release “Chemistry.”
Released on her recently launched YouTube channel (moonbyul2da), “Chemistry’s” announcement caught Moomoos (MAMAMOO’s fandom) by surprise. The announcement was followed by teaser images and trailers, keeping the anticipation high before the surprise release. The track also acts as a perfect bridge between Moonbyul’s December 13th release “G999” featuring Mirani and her forthcoming collaborative single with Seori, set to release later this month.
Familiarizing fans with her varied style, Moonbyul adopts a lo-fi R&B route backed by a delightful amalgamation of percussion sounds and guitar riffs. The underlining bass beat and groovy synth keep the rhythm lively and upbeat. The cherry on top is Moonbyul’s breathy vocal performance, which enhances the appeal of the track, giving it an almost an intoxicated romance atmosphere, oozing with passion and endearment.
The music video is as whimsically pleasant as the track with Moonbyul playing the role of a server, pushing herself through several chores that must be ticked off before the diner closes its doors for the night. Tired of her responsibilities, Moonbyul pushes her chores aside for a night of self-indulgence and festivities as she turns the place around into her own private party space to celebrate her birthday.
After nearly two years, Moonbyul is all set to release her solo album. Scheduled to release in January 2022, the rapper-singer’s third EP 6equence, will be preceded by pre-release singles to give the audience a sonic sense of the EP’s direction. With the first one (“G999”) already out, fans can expect to hear from Moonbyul again on December 30th, this time alongside South Korean singer-songwriter Seori.
