South Korean group NCT Dream made their comeback today with a brand new five-track EP titled Reload, led by the single “Ridin'” and its accompanying music video. The dynamic track signals a brand new era for the group who recently scrapped their age-based graduation system to take on a rotation-style concept similar to brother sub-unit NCT U.
“Ridin'” is a dynamic blend of urban trap and pop and sees the members show off more rap, deeper vocals and complex falsettos. The lyrics, co-written by rapper Rick Bridges (X&), are about NCT Dream’s ambitions to climb higher and achieve more success as artists. They see no obstacles in front of them and are ready to keep going no matter what. The path ahead seems limitless to them as they sing, “Look at the world in front of you/The story you dreamed is not a dream anymore/Face the newly rising sun/Flying down the road (Let’s roll).”
The video is largely choreography-focused; the members of NCT Dream show off smooth dance moves and pose next to sleek cars and bikes on neon-lit sets, keeping in tandem with the track’s title. There’s a lot more attitude on “Ridin'” compared to their previous releases, indicative of the group’s growth as young men as well as artists in the industry.
Reload has also seen several members of NCT Dream participate in the songwriting process. Vocalist Jaemin told Korean publication Soompi about the album in a recent interview, “It’s always the same feeling, but I want our song to be heard by even more people. We’ll show a lot of NCT Dream’s positive energy through this promotion.”
