Watch NewJeans Perform ‘Super Shy’ and ‘OMG’ at 2023 BBMAs

Korean pop quintet win Top Global K-Pop Artist award

K-pop sensations NewJeans performed “Super Shy” and “OMG” during the 2023 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday.

Appearing first in a futuristic set with pulsating lights that framed each of them in separate booths, the quintet — Danielle, Haerin, Hyein, Hanni and Minji —  then moved to centerstage where they were joined by a bevy of dancers to perform a fun “Super Shy” that was in-step with the song’s viral choreography. Meanwhile, their Bunnies fans chanted along to the song.

They exited side stage to return with some quick camera wizardry that showcased costume changes as they walked into another set where they launched into “OMG.” There, they danced in a white-walled set complete with pulsating lights and cloudlike structures where they delivered the track and interacted with the audience via waves and winks.

Following their set, NewJeans won the new Top Global K-Pop Artists award, besting Stray Kids, Tomorrow x Together, Twice, and BTS’ Jimin.

“Thank you so much for giving us the top global K-pop artist award,” Hyein said. Hanni added: “We have been nominated in this category alongside such incredible artists we look up to. It’s an honor in itself. We are so grateful for this opportunity to perform at the Billboard Music Awards.” Minji and Haerin gave shout-outs to the Bunnies. “Words cannot convey how grateful we are, but we hope that one day we can bring you as much happiness as you’ve given us,” Hearin said.

The fast-rising group has had a banner year, marking their first-ever U.S. performance at Lollapalooza in August, where they also made history as the first K-pop girl group to play the Chicago festival.
