Singer-songwriter Nikhita Gandhi continues her penchant for sultry Hindi-English pop on her latest single “Maharani,” which was originally written with composer-flutist and producer Shankar Tucker and vocalist-composer Vidya Iyer aka Vidya Vox.
The song is intended as Gandhi’s message to women around the world, batting for self-love and empowerment at all times. In the music video for “Maharani,” Gandhi teams up with Vidya Vox and dancers to show off groovy moves. There’s even a cameo by Tucker in the video directed by Anand (from production house FlopFilms), Shashwat Singh and Saurabh Prajapati in Goa and Mumbai.
Gandhi says in a statement about the song, “The special thing about this song is that I’ve written it with my dear friends Shankar Tucker and Vidya Iyer who is more famously known as Vidya Vox. They had written this track earlier and when I caught up with them this year in L.A., I rewrote it in Hindi and added some of my own flavors to it and here you have it! I think it’s always special when a song is co-written with friends and also it’s such a wonderful feeling to know artists who are also genuinely such lovely people and love to share their vibes and music. Hope you feel it.”
“Maharani” follows Gandhi’s similar Hindi-English projects including “Tu Hi Bata” with singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Siddhant Bhosle and the lo-fi informed R&B EP Saazish.
