The track is the Mumbai artist’s third release since debuting last year
After releasing his first single, the emotional “The One” in 2021, Mumbai singer-songwriter Parth Gadhvi worked on refining his skills as a musician. He says, “I’ve spent a lot of time practicing, writing songs, experimenting and collaborating with musicians for covers as well as originals.” Gadhvi also dropped his pop-rock sophomore single last year and is now back with his latest offering, the charming “Still Around.”
The artist has had the guitar riff for “Still Around” in his locker for around three years and explains that sometimes songs fall out of the sky for him, but this one took some grafting. “It demanded patience as it unraveled itself one line, one phrase at a time. As a songwriter, you’re only satisfied with a song when you feel it absorbs your emotions and describes them in a way that sets you free from them.”
According to Gadhvi, although the lyrics are heavy in nature, the song isn’t a negative one. In fact, “Still Around” talks about how one carries the concept of home with them wherever they go. “It’s difficult not to look back, especially when the present feels so empty compared to the days gone by. Sometimes you need the comfort of your past to move on,” says Gadhvi. He adds, “‘Still Around’ talks of this happy-sad relationship we have with our past.”
The song opens with breathy plucked acoustic guitar parts as Gadhvi’s gentle vocals, lush keys, strings and orchestral elements take over as the track progresses. The singer-songwriter says, “I have tried to keep it as intimate as possible, adhering to the philosophy that says less is always more.” Gadhvi worked with audio engineer Sachin Nair at his home studio and tracked vocals and guitar parts at Mumbai’s FARR Studios. “I was thoroughly impressed by Sachin’s technical know-how in the mixing department. All in all, I learned a lot watching him work,” he says.
The music video – a first for Gadhvi – was also created by a video team consisting of Tanay Shah and Aayush Sharma. In the clip, the singer-songwriter is seen reminiscing childhood memories and the visuals capture the essence of the song to a tee. “It was a lot of fun [making the video] and I count myself lucky to have found these driven and talented individuals at the right place and time,” says the artist.
With a couple of collaborations in the works as well as an EP due later this year, Gadhvi is knee-deep in projects at the moment. The singer-songwriter is also keen to score some gigs where he can perform his already released material as well as what’s to come. “I’ve missed going to open-mics and meeting new musicians too, so I’ll try to do more of that in the coming months,” he says.
