Watch Porkjet’s Story-Driven Video For ‘Sway’

The track is the New Delhi indie rock band’s first since 2018’s ‘Turn It Over’

After the release of their debut single “Turn It Over” in 2018, New Delhi indie rockers Porkjet – consisting of vocalist Tushar Simkhada, guitarist Aman Kashyap and bassist Shubham Khanduri – spent time gigging around the capital. However, once the group began day jobs in 2019, as well as with the pandemic hitting the following year, things within their camp slowed down. Now, the band is back with their sophomore single, the shimmering “Sway,” (out via New Delhi independent label Solid Pillow Records) and it is also the first offering with new drummer Sagar Hirani.

Although Kashyap had “Sway” written around three years ago, he tells us that the band only started working on it in 2020. He says, “Lyrically, the song is confessional and personal. I like to describe it as an indie rock banger written in a perpetual emo state of mind.” While the track talks of heartbreak and the urge to move on, the guitarist adds, “This song is about getting over yet wanting to turn back time, it is about more than just falling in love but about reviving and reworking the nostalgia, swaying back and forth into good times.”

The song includes melodious guitar playing from Kashyap, while Hirani and Khanduri hold a tight groove throughout. Simkhada’s lush vocals and silky delivery work in tandem with the music and lyrics, creating a certain sense of wistfulness and yearning.

Porkjet have also released a music video – directed by Gaurav Dhingra – to accompany the song. The clip sees Simkhada playing the protagonist who is stuck in a limbo of thoughts as shots of the band performing the track are also interspersed. “It was a great experience filming this video, we filmed across three locations on four separate days but it never left us tired, we were just very happy that it was finally happening,” says Kashyap.

The band is already working on new material and are hopeful to be out with a follow-up release very soon. Porkjet also wants to get back to playing live shows and are keen to put together a tour too. Kashyap says, “The band is more active than ever and we have some interesting ideas going around at the moment.”
