It’s about three months since the release of New Delhi artist Prabh Deep’s mindbending new album Tabia and its staying power has proven to be forged into the rapper, singer and producer’s sonic choices.

Beyond making a vulnerable, emotional and cerebral record that has 15 tracks spanning 55 minutes, Prabh and label Azadi Records call on filmmaker Mikhail Anand and director of photography Prabhudutta Mohanty for a visual representation of his sojourn, as seen in the music video for “Paapi.” The six and a half minute clip has been shot in some of the most desolate, ruinous portions of Leh, Ladakh, likely in a bid to portray the artist’s loneliness and sense of wandering, continually in search for a gold medallion that has passed hands from mysterious female figures (portrayed by Natasha Mehra and Arshia Saxena).

He wanders the mountains, standing amidst ruins of settlements and sleeping by bonfires, the anguish ever-present as lyrics about love and self-acceptance are played up over Prabh’s swirling production. Adding a regal horn section towards the end of “Paapi,” the musician sings about how it’s important to forgive oneself. Prabh said on Instagram about the video, “I am super proud of everyone involved in this project but specially the team survived -15 [degree] weather and still managed to get this beauty out. Here! We give you something more than just entertainment. Enjoy.”

In a note supplied with the release, “Paapi” is described to be a track about how adulation and praise has disconnected a person from his soul. “The track lays bare the denial that the protagonist is consumed by, instead choosing to surround himself with people who constantly shower him with praise and deny him the reality check that he so desperately needs.”
