Before heading off to “cause a ruckus” at the Republican National Convention, Prophets of Rage ”“ the supergroup featuring members of Rage Against the Machine, Cypress Hill and Public Enemy ”“ staged a surprise free concert atop a rooftop along Los Angeles’ Skid Row on Friday.
“Well there’s a thing called the Republican National Convention in July, and that will be a perfect place for a band like Prophets of Rage to cause a ruckus, and we will be there on the streets, in the field,” Morello said in June. “We have a venue and there may be venues that will be spontaneous venues, it’s hard to say. This is the kind of thing you don’t broadcast to the local authorities prior to arrival.”
Prophets of Rage are scheduled to perform at Cleveland’s Agora Ballroom on July 19th, the second day of the RNC, but the band has suggested they would stage impromptu pop-up gigs around the city to draw the ire of the GOP.
“We wanted to be there to represent people who need a cultural voice to express their displeasure with the coronation that’s going to be happening in the good working class town of Cleveland,” Morello told Cleveland.com.
