Watch: Sahil Makhija of Demonic Resurrection Breaks Down RSMA Nominations

Demonstealer and his alter-ego Rowdy Rathod give you the lowdown on the upcoming metal awards

“So keep the butthurt where it belongs — in the butt,” warns Sahil Makhija aka Demonstealer, before delving into a lighthearted album-by-album, track-by-track and fellow musician-by-musician analysis of the G-Shock Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2016 nominations.

In a special RSMA edition of his weekly #IndianMetalPodcast, the Demonic Resurrection leader details the “fairly fair” judging process, makes his predictions for each of the categories, tracks the public voting so far and even states “he’s not in agreement with the nominations”. With a little help from his South Indian alter-ego Rowdy Rathod and stuffed minion Ameoba [no, really], Makhija also does some hit-and-miss impersonations of fans of the Best Band nominees to lighten the mood. There’s the snobby Englishman (?) who regards Albatross as a “mighty fine band;” the true-blue South Indian Inner Sanctum follower [“Let’s go mosh, ra“]; the stoned Shepherd fan who “loves the music when he’s high;” the Third Sovereign enthusiast who insists “THUDSOVRAN IS BEST METAL BAND IN INDIA!!” and finally, the street-soul Zygnema worshipper calling upon his fellow buntais to remove their t-shirts and mosh, bhenchod.

Because of the cut-throat competition and stellar musicianship this year, even the veteran metal musician finds it tough at times to predict a winner at times for most categories [concluding the Best Guitarist category “Everyone is a good guitar player; it’s so hard, man!”], except for drummer Abhinav Yogesh [of Bengaluru thrash/death metallers Inner Sanctum] who is a shoo-in for Best Drummer: “Abhinav, you fucking rock, dude.”

Demonstealer–who recently released his solo album This Burden Is Mine–signs off by announcing the event details, followed by Rowdy popping up at the end off the clip to show off his own trophy from RSMA 2015.

G-Shock Rolling Stone Metal Awards takes place on February 28th at Hard Rock Cafe Worli, Mumbai.
