Watch Seventeen’s Breathtaking Video for ‘Fear’

Popular South Korean group Seventeen made a comeback earlier today with the release of their much-anticipated third full length studio album, An Ode. The 13-member boy band stunned fans with the breathtaking music video for the second lead single “Fear,” taking the darker, elegant image they have been portraying for this comeback to the next level.

Visually, “Fear” has a similar vibe to their previous single “Hit” which dropped last month–clean-cut shots of surrealistic sets, gliding camera angles to highlight the group’s sharp choreography and elegant styling in every frame. However instead of the adrenaline rush of “Hit,” “Fear” delivers a hypnotic otherworldliness thanks to the members’ unwavering eye-contact with the camera, ethereal beauty, extravagant styling and nonchalant expressions. The sets and lighting are elevated to unbelievable levels of quality and execution with each member having his own unique backdrop and staying in the viewer’s mind. It’s thrilling to watch and a visual treat with every frame.

In terms of sound “Fear” explores a grittier vibe with distorted synth which they contrast sharply with breathy falsettos and clean vocals. There’s a touch of lounge embedded within the distortion, then combined with trap to aid the group’s rappers–it’s a delightfully unexpected a myriad of textures within one track. “‘Fear’ is an emotion many people encounter at least once in their lifetime,” states the video’s description box on YouTube. “Seventeen explores fear as an emotion they face during their creative process. As the members search within for insight, the agony they endure help them develop one step further as artists.”

An Ode is an 11-track offering with several members participating in writing, production and arrangement with the group’s main composer and producer Woozi taking the reigns. The group’s frequent collaborator Bumzu’s work also features prominently on the LP.
