The swaying title track from his upcoming EP will be followed by the final single ‘Bhoola Na Tujhe’
Mumbai singer-songwriter and composer Ramil Ganjoo delves on ideas of childhood and adulthood in his latest music video for “Gulmohar,” the title track off his upcoming EP.
The five-track EP – the follow-up to his mid-2020 EP Phir Kabhi – has been released in a piecemeal fashion so far, starting with affable songs like “Daastaan” and “Dhundo Mujhe” in late 2020. Singles including “Tu Na Jaane” and now “Gulmohar” were out this year and will be followed by “Bhoola Na Tujhe” to wrap up the five-track Gulmohar EP on November 10th.
Ganjoo says about Gulmohar, “A lot of thought went into curating this EP. I surfed through different emotions, beliefs and places over the years while I was writing these songs. I feel this EP is somehow an illustration of how my perspective towards life has evolved. So, I had to be picky and choose the songs that really had a part of me.”
In the music video for “Gulmohar,” we see an older man – ascribed the name K. Kumar – who watches different portions of his life in retrospect. Directed by Romil Khatri for the production house Fish In The Sky, the surreal and metaphor-heavy music video offers a mirror to Ganjoo’s melancholic waltz. Ganjoo’s vocals go over echoing guitar lines from Ritaprabha Ray, with production helmed by Deepanjan Guha, with the latter working on all the tracks off Gulmohar EP.
Ganjoo has worked on the final single “Bhoola Na Tujhe” with his brother Divyansh, who has served as co-writer. “It’s one of my absolute favorites from the lot. The song has an acoustic charm to it. And it’s happy-sad,” Ganjoo says.
Similar to how Phir Kabhi was succeeded by quick singles in the same year, Ganjoo is keeping the momentum going. He says about his plans for the coming months and 2022, “I’m in the process of exploring new sounds and creating new stuff. I’m halfway through it and am really excited to put it out.”
