Watch ‘Steve Jobs’ Battle for Domination in Thrilling Biopic Trailer

“Musicians play their instruments – I play the orchestra,” Apple co-founder (played by Michael Fassbender) boasts in teaser

Jul 03, 2015

“Musicians play their instruments ”“ I play the orchestra.” That key line, from the new trailer for upcoming biopic Steve Jobs, is delivered by Michael Fassbender, as the enigmatic Apple mogul defends his position against co-founder Steve Wozniak.

What do you do?” Wozniak (Seth Rogen) asks his business partner. “You’re not an engineer. You’re not a designer. You can’t put a hammer to a nail. I built the circuit board. The graphical interface was stolen. So how come, 10 times in a day, I read Steve Jobs is a genius. What do you do?”

Wozniak isn’t the only one making heated complaints in the first official trailer for Danny Boyle’s upcoming look at the computer-industry titan. Jobs struggles to maintain control against former CEO John Sculley and a crew of developers who are pushed to their limits. (“You’re insubordinate,” says Sculley, played by Jeff Daniels. “You make people miserable.”) Meanwhile, Macintosh’s ex-marketing chief Joanna Hoffman (Kate Winslet) encourages Jobs to “manage expectations” as his ever-ambitious vision grows.

Steve Jobs is built on a three-part structure, following Jobs during a trio of product launches ”“ ending with the iMac’s debut in 1998. The film, out October 9th, was directed by Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), written by The Social Network‘s Aaron Sorkin and is based on 2011 best-selling biography from Walter Isaacson, which described the tech pioneer’s journey through interviews with co-workers, friends, family and business rivals.

The cast also features Katherine Waterston (Jobs’ ex-girlfriend Chrisann Brennan) and Michael Stuhlbarg (Macintosh developer Andy Hertzfeld).

The biopic has faced a variety of personnel challenges since being picked up by Sony in 2011. David Fincher was first considered for director but backed away following disagreements over marketing and compensation. Last year, Leonardo DiCaprio was in talks to star as Jobs before stepping aside to focus on his lead role in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s western-thriller The Revenant.
