The nine-member K-pop group showcase drive and attitude in their latest comeback
South Korean group Stray Kids dropped their single “Double Knot” earlier today, reinforcing the group’s reputation as a comeback powerhouse; the single marks their third album release this year, albeit part of a special repackage of their third EP Clé 2: Yellow Wood which dropped in June.
The video for “Double Knot” keeps it simple–dressed in mostly black and white, the nine-members of Stray Kids run through various desolate urban landscapes including a warehouse, empty streets and parking lots. They seem to be on a determined journey, and make it clear they will stop at nothing to get there. The feel of the clip is more serious than their previous releases, keeping the focus on the group’s precise and powerful choreography.
In terms of sound, Stray Kids keep it dynamic as always– the group’s internal production unit 3Racha (which consists leader Bangchan and rappers Changbin and Han) play with combinations of trap, hip-hop and electronica which suit the song’s message about drive, determination, freedom and pursuing your dreams without fear: “I’ve been looking at one thing/Now I have a broader perspective/I start to look at many roads/Looking at this place divided into many crossroads, eyes wide open/Go! Break all the, break all the rules.” The chorus is a refrain of “Tie harder, Double knot,” a metaphor to prepare yourself to walk (or run) on what you know is going to be a difficult path.
