Watch Sunmi’s Action-Packed Video for ‘You Can’t Sit With Us’
Following the success of her February 2021 release ‘Tail,’ the South Korean soloist makes her highly-anticipated comeback with the EP ‘1/6’
South Korean pop star Sunmi takes on the role of a frustrated lover fighting off zombies in her latest release, “You Can’t Sit With Us.” Characterized by a distinct Eighties dance-pop style with powerful synth, the track summarizes the frustration and anger one experiences when they’re at a crossroads with their lover.
The music video opens with the vocalist lounging in her bedroom, seemingly irritated by the repeated calls and messages from her lover. As the song proceeds, Sunmi opens the window to see her lover standing below with a placard reading ‘Forgive Me.’ Frustrated and annoyed, Sunmi loses her cool and starts tossing items out of her window, including a pot that smashes onto her boyfriend’s head.
The scene drastically changes when Sunmi, along with her two friends, are attacked by zombies. Trapped in a DVD rental store, the three women uncover their ammunition, taking down the undead one after the other. At the end of the battle, the singer faces her lover who gets down on one knee to propose. An elated Sunmi instantly runs into her lover’s arms– the two remain in each other’s embrace despite being surrounded by a fleet of police officials, giving this story a strange and bittersweet ending.
“You Can’t Sit With Us” was written by Sunmi and composed by Melanie Fontana, Michel Schulz, and Ross Golan. Aside from demonstrating her abilities as a seasoned vocalist, Sunmi is also seen exercising her skills in rap, “I feel like I’m growlin’, trippin’ now here/ You said it’s love?/ Well, you’ve got a point/ Tell ’em you’ve found the only one.” The singer soon switches to her signature breathy vocals, continuing to express her frustration, “You can’t sit with us, oh/ I hate you/ When I think of you, I’m feelin’ faded.”
Sunmi’s third EP 1/6 features six tracks– “SUNNY” “1/6,” “Call,” “Narcissism,” ‘Borderline” and the lead single “You Can’t Sit With Us.” The vocalist will also be seen as a judge on the idol reality show Girls Planet 999, scheduled to commence from today.
