The Bengaluru folk rock band’s vocalist-guitarist talks about outdoor gigs and new material
When Bengaluru folk rock band Swarathma’s frontman Vasu Dixit was in Mumbai earlier this month, he was getting ready to be a part of the monthly gig series All Starr Jamm, alongside electro rock band Pentagram’s guitarist Randolph Correia, electro post punk band Sky Rabbit’s vocalist Raxit Tewari and Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Heather Andrews.
“It’s always great to get people to sing along,” Dixit said as he sat down for a video interview with ROLLING STONE India about Swarathma’s upcoming gig at Genesis Foundation’s JadhavGADH Music Festival on September 27th at Fort Jadhavgadh in Pune. Besides talking about outdoor gigs and new songs, Dixit discussed how the band works with different drummers for each gig, from prog rock/metal band Slain’s Joe Jacob to fusion drummer Karthik Mani [from jazz fusion band MoonArra] and psychedelic rock band Parvaaz’s drummer Sachin Banandur. Says Dixit, “All three are exceptionally talented. Each one has a different flavor.”
Swarathma, Shaa’ir + Func, Parikrama, Atul Ahuja Band and Geetu Hinduja perform at Genesis Foundation’s JadhavGADH Music Festival on September 27th, 2014, from 3pm onwards. Event details here. Entry via donor cards for Rs 3,500 per person and Rs 5,500 for couples. Buy tickets here.
