Watch Tanya Nambiar Explore New Delhi In ‘Big City’ Music Video
The singer-songwriter slows down the tempo on Marvin Jenkins’ 1960 classic
Vehicles hurtle onward and away from each other, like two deflecting arrows launched by foes, on a city thoroughfare lit by lamp posts and headlights. New Delhi singer-songwriter Tanya Nambiar walks the bridge in black motorcycle boots as the metro passes overhead; the night has just begun.
Nambiar covers Marvin Jenkins’ 1960 jazz classic “Big City” in her latest release, bringing down the tempo on her electro-jazz cover and changing the setting. We’re not in Jenkins’ New York but in Nambiar’s New Delhi where light and music continue to imbue a softness to the hustle and bustle of the capital. Keyboardist Archit Anand and bassist Akshat Pradhan join Nambiar to translate smooth jazz as fluid keyboard and emphatic electric bass ripple through the track produced by New Delhi-based DJ ATMUS. The keys are playful on the bridge, accompanied by muted finger snaps. Nambiar’s vocals float through the cover, strong, silky and spectral.
Directed and shot by New Delhi-based filmmaker Tushar Dixit, Nambiar explores rooftops, balconies, streets, promenades and more in her music video for “Big City.”
