Watch The Fanculos’ Light-Hearted Video For ‘What You See Is What You Get’

The Mumbai ska outfit will launch the clip tonight at the city-based antiSOCIAL

Last year, Mumbai ska outfit The Fanculos released their debut nine-track record The Fanculos Album which is filled with tasty horn parts, groovy beats and plenty of sing-along sections. Now the five-piece band, comprising vocalist-trombone player Ramon Ibrahim, tenor saxophonist Ryan Sadri, guitarist Apurv Isaac, bassist Saurabh Suman and drummer Jehangir Jehangir, are out with their first video for the charming “What You See Is What You Got” off the album.

In the clip – directed by Mumbai-based videographer and musician Jishnu Guha – the band is seen performing the song against a white backdrop while goofing around, interchanging instruments, taking seductive selfies and just being overall silly. “We wanted to present the band to the world in a way that would give some idea of what anyone could expect from a live Fanculos gig. Plenty of energy, huge amounts of fun, all very gritty and real,” says Ibrahim.

The group’s black and white formal attire in the video (meant to not hide any imperfections) pays tribute to early British ska bands of the Seventies and Eighties. The light-hearted nature of the video also extends to what the song is all about. Ibrahim says, “There is a subtle hint at appreciating the genuine things in life.” He adds, “I feel that many things these days around us are very glittery but definitely not golden, so we aim to deliver everything we do with as much integrity, love and honesty as possible.”

The Fanculos launch the video for “What You See Is What You Got” tonight at Mumbai’s antiSOCIAL and will also be joined by alto saxophonist Rhys D’Souza. In addition to the clip premiering, the band intends to perform unreleased material too at the gig. Next, The Fanculos will begin recording a new EP as well as work on more music videos. Ibrahim adds, “It would be great to collaborate with other like-minded artists at some time in the future.”
