In Tom DeLonge’s new video for “New World,” the former Blink-182Â member shows just how hard he can rock without the aid of his old band.
“New World” is the lead single off To the Stars, DeLonge’s debut solo album replete with new material and old Blink-182 demos. The video shows DeLonge alone in a room filled with instruments and electronics, juxtaposing scenes of the musician smashing everything with his guitar with images of DeLonge walking down a street and through a grocery store.
In January, DeLonge’s former bandmates Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus released a statement revealing that DeLonge had “indefinitely” left the band. Though DeLonge refuted the statement via Instagram, Hoppus and Barker were adamant that even though the guitarist never formally quit the band, his manager had passed along an e-mail stating that he was out after two years of missed studio dates and apathy towards the band’s future. Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba filled in for the ex-member at Musink Festival in March.
Meanwhile, DeLonge has laid out massive plans for his solo career this year. To the Stars is the first of four potential upcoming albums, including two planned Angels & Airwaves albums. “I have the fastest punk song I’ve written in 15 years on my new album,” promised the “All the Small Things” singer. “I hope it makes you destroy stuff.”
Beyond music, DeLonge has also stated that he is “in six contracts with best-selling authors that are co-writing 15 novels” with the singer. Three of his four 2015 albums will be released in conjunction with the novels.
To the Stars will be released on April 21st.
