YG Entertainment's new boy group dropped their debut EP 'The First Step: Chapter One'
YG Entertainment's Treasure is the first boy group to debut from the company since iKon in 2015.
South Korean company YG Entertainment (home to BLACKPINK, Big Bang, WINNER and iKON) have finally debuted their brand new boy group, Treasure. Formed via the 2018 K-pop reality show YG Treasure Box, the group comprises 12 members, Hyunsuk, Yedam, Haruto, Jihoon, Yoshinori, Junkyu, Mashiho, Jaehyuk, Asahi, Doyoung, Jeongwoo, and Junghwan. Earlier today, Treasure dropped their debut EP The First Step: Chapter One led by the single “Boy” and its accompanying music video.
Co-written by members Hyunsik and Haruto, “Boy” is a saucy, confident track about a boy trying to woo a girl because he feels he’s the right guy for her. “Stop playing with fire, fill with love fire/I’m runnin’ and runnin’ and/If it’s for you/I risk it all ride or die/Like it was meant to happen yeah/All I can see in the crowd is you/I can make you happy/It’s gotta be you girl/Please open up your heart/I just wanna be your boy.” Produced by popular YGE artists like Choice37, Have, Se.A and R.Tee, “Boy” is a powerful yet strange blend of funky house, trap and discordant dubstep.
Glitzy, glamorous and neon-filled, the music video is largely choreography focused but takes the time for generous solo shots of each member to introduce them to new audiences.
Despite the delay in their official debut, Treasure made a splash among the public thanks to a stronger rebranding in January 2020, which acted as promotions for their upcoming debut. Prior to the group’s debut, vocalist and long-time YG trainee Yedam became the first present solo debut with the single “Wayo” in June. Treasure is the first boy group to debut from YG Entertainment since iKon in 2015.
