Members Ken, Leo and Hyuk treated audiences at M Countdown to live renditions of "Shangri-La," "Chained Up" and "Voodoo Doll"
It’s always great to see an artist revive their older hits and South Korean group VIXX decided to treat their fans by bringing back some of their most popular releases.
Members Hyuk, Ken and Leo took the stage at Mnet’s popular music broadcast TV show M Countdown to deliver 2023 renditions of their iconic singles “Shangri-La” (2017), “Chained Up” (2015) and “Voodoo Doll” (2013). Dressed in combinations of black and maroon, the trio performed all the original choreography of each release–substituting background dancers for the missing members of the group– wowing the crowd with the throwback and igniting a sense of nostalgia across social media.
Ken, Leo and Hyuk made a comeback as VIXX for the first time in four years with a new single titled “Gonna Be Alright.” The track dropped on January 3rd, 2023 and follows the 2019 single “Walking.” Originally a sextet, VIXX currently comprises a total of five members– N, Leo, Hyuk, Ken and Ravi. Vocalist Hongbin departed from the group in 2020. Their last album release as a group was in 2018 with their third studio LP Eau De VIXX.
Over the last few years, some of the members have been fulfilling their mandatory military enlistments while others have pursued solo projects. The most recent solo releases have been from vocalist Leo and rapper Ravi in 2022, before the latter enlisted as a social service worker. On January 12th, reports of Ravi being under investigation emerged after he was suspected of violating military law by using an illegal military exemption scheme.
Meanwhile Ken, Leo and Hyuk will continue promoting as VIXX with a series of special fan concerts titled ‘[ING: As Always]’, the first of which took place in Seoul on January 7th. The trio are schedule to head to Japan in February and Taiwan in March. The group’s leader N is currently focusing on his acting career and will not be taking part in promotions with VIXX.
