Watch WayV’s Sleek New Video for ‘Take Off’

The Chinese boy group deliver chill trap, high fashion and a generous dose of attitude on their latest track

In the video for "Take Off" the members of WayV pose with various modes of fast transportation including airplanes, bikes and race cars.

Chinese boy group WayV made a comeback today with their new single “Take Off” and an accompanying music video. The track also marks the release of the seven member group’s second EP Take Off. WayV are the China-based unit of the ever-expanding South Korean boy band project NCT and debuted earlier this year with the EP The Vision.

Right off the bat, the video comes across as a celebration of adrenaline rush; the members of WayV (Hendery, Kun, Lucas, Ten, Winwin, Xiaojun and Yangyang) pose with various modes of fast transportation including airplanes, bikes and race cars. The entire clip is inter-cut with fast-paced choreography, aesthetic close-ups of each of the members, high-fashion looks and attitude–all filmed in aircraft hangars, gritty streets and car parks. The eye contact with the camera is unflinching and adds a ferocity to round up the group’s chic, sexier image.

The instrumentals on “Take Off” shift constantly but keep danceability high with a vibey bassline and chill trap, cutting it through with splashes of dreamy synth and vocals in the building pre-chorus. The song’s absolute highlight is the breakdown which takes a surprising turn by presenting some heavy, slow guitar shredding; paired with the visuals of the powerful choreography, it’s a moment that’s pretty much unforgettable.

Take Off features six tracks in total, including tracks from their debut EP, like “Regular”(the Chinese version of their brother group NCT 127’s 2018 track), “Come Back” and “Dream Launch.”
