Nearly two years after they released their mind-bending album Extropy in December 2015, Kolkata metallers Yonsample are finally getting back on track. Ask guitarist Soumik Roy what it’s been like having barely any gigs to promote the album, he says it’s been “a test of patience.”

They took the first steps towards rebuilding when they played at gig series The Abomination in January, splitting their set between songs played by drummer Tuhin Paul and his replacement, Aritra Basu. Shoumik says, “I had met him a couple of times through a common friend. I saw his videos online and asked him if he would be interested.”

Basu is working on new material with the band, but for now, he’s proving himself on a playthrough video for “Espial.” The band will return to play a full set with Basu all the way in November in Kolkata, with a few more shows planned. Ask Soumik what will keep the band going, he says in a voice that reminds us of an MBA student, “It just needs individual practice, strategic planning, deadlines and some travelling. And a high-speed Internet connection.”
