What’s On and Streaming For World Music Day 2021

World Music Day Lift Up with Vh1 India, MTV Beats and MTV

Starting at noon, singer-composer Jonita Gandhi hosts multiple artists across the board on MTV Beats, Vh1 India and MTV. Gandhi will interact with 32 ace musicians, including Armaan Malik, Kamakshi Khanna, Raghav Meattle, Raftaar, Shaan, Shilpa Rao and Sona Mohapatra for the livestream, which promises performances, “positive affirmations” by artists, interactive sessions, candid conversations, and more. Catch the sessions at the following times: 

MTV Beats- 12 PM, 6 PM, 10 PM

Vh1 – 12 PM and 9 PM

MTV – 2:30 PM, 8:30 PM

Peekay

Hyderabad artist Pranati Khanna aka Peekay is taking to Clubhouse (5 pm to 6 pm) as well as Zoom (8 pm to 9 pm) this evening for back to back performances across mediums to celebrate World Music Day. Terming her event as Ode To You, the singer-songwriter will perform her own music like her acoustic track “Starlight,” as well as covers, including upcoming releases due later this year. Tune in on Clubhouse and Zoom.

Indian Music Experience 

Bengaluru-headquartered museum, the Indian Music Experience, will host interactions with artists from three different continents today. There’s Israeli musician Eliezer Cohen Botzer, Nigerian artist Aralola Olamuyiwa aka Ara (known as a “talking drummer”) and Spanish flamenco guitarist-composer Carlos Blanco. The sessions will be livestreamed on the Indian Music Experience Museum’s FaceBook and YouTube page on 20th June 2021 at 06:30 pm.

Sounds of Society

Indian music star Lucky Ali has released a song off his upcoming album via collaborative performance series Sounds of Society. The acoustic version of the song “Reh Na Sake” sees the singer-songwriter team up with Arambol-based Sufi band Narang for a lilting, calming rendition. Watch here.

Compass Box Music

Ahmedabad-based studio and record label Compass Box Music will host a livestream of three performances from their rooms for the first time today, from 7 pm onwards. Singer-songwriter Meera Desai, guitarist-composer Chirag Todi’s joint set with jazz/prog/indie band Heatsink and singer-producer Shashwat Bulusu will be performing new and old material on the Compass Box YouTube page. Salim-Sulaiman

To mark one year of their label Merchant Records, sibling composer duo Salim and Sulaiman Merchant aka Salim-Sulaiman are celebrating with a livestream on their YouTube channel with an exciting lineup of artists this world music day at 6 pm. Singers and composers such as Vipul Mehta, Raj Pandit, Salman Ali and more will be part of the show. Watch here.

Fete de la Musique 2021

Just as they did last year, Fete de la Musique, hosted by Alliance Francaise India continue digitally once again in 2021 with livestreams, curated playlists, conversations around music, workshops and more. As part of today’s events, there’s a digital concert titled Virtual Rendezvous: World Music Day x India 2021 as well as another with the Joyce Quartet and Claire Merlet and even one more featuring Reggae Rajahs. Jasleen Royal’s Remix Challenge

Singer-songwriter Jasleen Royal brings back her 2016 Bollywood song “Kho Gaye Hum Kahan” (originally sung with indie frontrunner Prateek Kuhad) for rainy days and World Music Day on Instagram. The artist has asked musicians and fans alike to remix the song, leaving vocal portions to fill in using the remix on Reels function. Participate here.
