Why Tom Holland Rarely Walks Red Carpets With Girlfriend Zendaya

"It's not my moment, it’s her moment," the actor told Men's Health

You might not catch Tom Holland walking hand-in-hand with Zendaya on many red carpets. In a new interview for the cover of Men’s Health, the actor shared that he prefers to let his girlfriend shine on her own during big events.

“It’s not my moment, it’s her moment,” he told the outlet. “And if we go together, it’s about us.”

Holland and Zendaya confirmed their relationship in 2021, after first starring together in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, and have since become known as one of Hollywood’s it-couples. They last posed for a red carpet together during the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere in 2021.

Although he didn’t go into more details about the pair’s relationship in his Men’s Health interview, Holland shared that going out — either alone or with Zendaya — often entails having the make a few calls to ensure they can get privacy: “It’s booked in advance, we sort it all out, we call ahead to the theater and make sure we can get somewhere private.”

In a Dish Podcast interview last month, Holland also joked about the perks of dating Zendaya and filming Spider-Man, and a separate Christopher Nolan project.

“Studios love it: one hotel room,” he joked. “Separate drivers. We’re not crazy.… It’s work, alright!”

During that episode, Holland also shared that he appreciated having a partner who understands the perks and difficulties of fame: “That’s where Zendaya and I have been such a strong couple, is in the spirit of being able to relate with one another on something that is very, very unique.”

Perhaps another Zendaya-Holland red carpet will come when Spider-Man 4 comes out. Holland teased the script in an October interview. “We have a creative and a pitch and a draft which is excellent,” Holland told the Rich Roll podcast. “It needs work but the writers are doing a great job, and I read it three weeks ago. It really lit a fire in me.”

“Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect,’” he added. “But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting, and I’m really excited about it.”
