Wired Anxiety Diss 24/7 Work Culture on ‘The Delirium of Negation’

The Mumbai death metallers’ relentless four-track EP is one of the top-notch death metal releases this year

Mumbai death metal band Wired Anxiety  might have stitched together a madcap set on their new four-track EP The Delirium of Negation but it could be a while before you ever see any of this material live in action. The band’s members are now tending to different, non-music career goals, with vocalist Dheeraj Govindraju and guitarist Naval Katoch moving to the U.S.

Maybe music is an escapist fantasy for Wired Anxiety, considering The Delirium of Negation revolves around the concept of mind-controlling monsters who develop a race of subservient humans. The band, which also features drummer Sumeet Ninawe and bassist Adwait Jadhav, aim for the jugular with the groove-leaning opener “Test Subject: Human.” While it’s the incisive rhythm section that leads on “Heavily Sedated,” Govindraju’s guttural brilliance comes through the best. Once they’ve ticked off groove metal influences, the band turns to slam and brutal death metal [much like their peers in Mumbai band Gutslit] on “Severe Comorbidity,” before returning to a groovy, modern death metal sound on the closing “Focus 22.” What helps solidify The Delirium of Negation as a contender for one of the best metal releases from India this year is that it packs it all in, with four tracks of slash-and-burn death metal.

A shift from their 2012 debut EP The Eternal Maze, Wired Anxiety have raged their way up to more polished songwriting and help from Russian sound engineer Arkady Navaho to mix and master The Delirium of Negation. Navaho had worked with Wired Anxiety’s big influences, Russian death metallers Katalepsy. To death metal die-hards, this EP is a must-listen.
