With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup kicking off on Oct. 3, 2024 in the U.A.E., the cricketing world gets another pop anthem for glory, this time via India’s girl group W.i.S.H.

The artists Sim, Ri, Suchi and Zo deliver a punchy, dramatic pop tune with “Whatever It Takes,” driving ambition while also speaking to younger fans to draw them into international cricket’s next big tournament. The World Cup’s official event song brings together W.i.S.H., their go-to composer Mikey McCleary and composer Parth Parekh, with music produced by Bay Music House.

In the video for the song that clocks in at a minute and 40 seconds – the streaming version of “Whatever It Takes” is a full minute longer, at 2:40 in runtime – W.i.S.H. are seen singing and dancing their way through a mega-event of sorts, surrounded with eager cricket fans and bring a bit of apt choreography that draws from batting shots.

W.i.S.H. said in a statement about their new release, “We are incredibly proud to share that as an all-girl group, we’ve created the official event song for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup! Cricket is a powerful force that unites people across our country and around the world, and it’s an honor to contribute to such a special occasion. As huge fans of Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana, we can’t wait for them to do the hook step from the music video and of course the other players from all the participating nations!”

McCleary added in his statement about the song, “I feel we have captured the vibe and the energy of a T20 cricket world cup in this song and can’t wait for cricket fans all over the world to listen to it.”

ICC general manager of marketing and communications Claire Furlong said in her statement, “This soundtrack is not only a prelude of the extraordinary talent that will be displayed on the field of play, but also the vehicle to inspiring a new generation of heroes to women’s cricket’s ever-growing, worldwide fanbase.”

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup concludes with its final match on Oct. 20 in Dubai. W.i.S.H., for their part, have had a slew of singles to mark their debut year in action, starting with “Lazeez” and going on to singles like “Galti,” “Therapy” and “Headrush.”
