Wolfmother

‘Back Round’ Three and a half stars www.wolfmother.com

Published by

After a hiatus of nearly two years, Sydney-based hard-rock band Wolfmother has risen from the ashes with a new line up. Differences between the original trio of Andrew Stockdale, Chris Ross and Myles Heskett ”“ with the latter two leaving the band ”“ led to most assuming the band was history. But Stockdale has got himself a new army which effortlessly realigns with Wolfmother’s gut-wrenching, sinister grind. It’s almost like nothing changed and Ross and Heskett are masquerading as Ian Peres (keyboards,) Dave Atkins (drums,) and everything is right in its place. On ‘Back Round,’ their new single up for free download, Stockdale scowls “It looks like someone has been/been here before/They left here thinking/they could still have it all” in typical Ozzy fashion. The jagged guitar chops, speedy licks and roughage retained on sound, with a Jack White like finish, whip up an unhinged ferocity. Wolfmother is back in action and we are completely tuned in.
