Wonho Embraces His Dark Side in ‘Eye On You’

The South Korean pop star steps back into deep house with ease with his latest release, ‘Obsession’

Feb 16, 2022

From his heart-wrenching return with “Lose” to the sexy debut with “Open Mind” and the cheerful “Blue,” Wonho changes gears on every single comeback and Obsession is no different. Led by the suave and savage single “Eye On You,” the South Korean singer-songwriter’s new single album offers us a darker side of his artistry.

Wonho steps back into deep house with ease after “Open Mind,” pairing the rhythmic synth with his soft vocals to produce a sultry and mysterious effect on “Eye On You.” Written and composed by the singer, the anti-drop at the bridge of the track drives home the slight eeriness of the lyrics which revolve around an obsessive attraction: “I got my eye on you/ I need your touch, I need your love/ I got my eye on you/ Engrave me deep over your body… Knot of sanity is broken/ Out of my control/ It won’t be easy to tame me/ You know I’m so savage.”

The music video for “Eye On You” is choreography-focused and features sleek and sharp moves from Wonho set against black and red backdrops. The visuals also bring in imagery comparing Wonho to a wolf, indicating he is a predator on a hunt. Chains and red threads attempt to cage him, but it soon becomes clear he cannot be contained.

In addition to “Eye On You,” Obession features the English B-side track “Somebody” which experiments with a blend of retro funk, rock and synth pop. The release follows Wonho’s sophomore EP Blue Letter, which was released in September 2021.
