Flautist Rakesh Chaurasia, vocalist Kavita Seth and more join artists from Oman, Morocco and China, plus a special Rajasthani-Peruvian collaboration

Now in its 13th edition, the Mehrangarh Museum Trust-aided World Sacred Spirit Festival will host four days of music from around the globe from February 13th to 16th at Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur.

While the World Sacred Spirit Festival has for long been a fixture in the music gig calendar for anyone who likes fusion, folk and songs of the globe, it was in 2015 that they grabbed a few extra eyeballs in India after hosting Israeli guitarist-composer Shye Ben Tzur and British alternative frontrunners Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood with the Rajasthan Express. The performance took place in advance of the release of their collaborative album Junun.

This year at the festival, there’s a collaboration planned between native Americans of Peru and Manganiyar musicians taking place on February 15th, while other top draws include flautist Rakesh Chaurasia delivering a lakeside performance, ghazals and Sufi renditions from accomplished vocalist Kavita Seth, South Korea’s Duo Bud who will explore ancient Korean music, poetry from Morocco’s Walid Ben Selim, Chinese poet Jiang Nan and more. Interestingly, singer-songwriter Kanishk Seth will also perform at the same festival as his mother, closing the night on February 15th with a set of compositions based on Sufi poet Aamir Khusrau’s work.

Additionally, the World Sacred Spirit Festival will also host Omani group Areej Sufi Ensemble, Senegalese artists Nourou Salam, Kashmiri Sufi music from Farooq Ahmad Ganie and Rajasthani folk mainstays like Kachra Khan Manganiyar, amongst others.

Tickets for the festival are currently on sale, with season passes selling at Rs. 8,000 and day passes selling at Rs. 4,500.
