World Sacred Spirit Festival Returns With Ninth Edition Next Month

The annual musical and cultural gathering held at Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort will feature performances by sarod virtuoso Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, world music duo Maati Baani, Moroccan act Driss El Maloumi and many more

World Sacred Spirit Festival [WSSF] offers a most tempting prospect to fans of classical music ”“ watching performances by the some of the best names on the circuit at one of the most majestic heritage structures in India, Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort. Organized by the Mehrangarh Museum Trust, the three-day multicultural WSSF will take place between February 26th to 28th and will witness recitals by the likes of sarod virtuoso Ustad Amjad Ali Khan with his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, world music duo Maati Baani and Afghanistani rubab player Daud Khan.

WSSF will also host a variety of other cultural performances such as Andalusian dance, film screenings and a  concert showcasing Rajasthani folk music performed by children. Says Karni Singh Ji Jasol, Director of Mehrangarh Museum Trust, “A confluence of global musical exponents presenting the sacred and devotional music is the uniqueness of the festival, where the idea is to create a musical atmosphere. The most unique aspect is the backdrop of the majestic Mehrangarh fort and the various locations within the fort that complements the musical performances by the artists.”

In the 2015 edition, which saw a footfall of 7000 local and international attendees, the festival  hosted many eminent personalities like santoor player Nawab Khan, Sufi singer Madan Gopal Singh and leading Chinese artist Li Daiguo’s multi-instrumental performance.
