XG Pushes the Envelope with ‘XDM Unidentified Waves’

This release gives XG’s hit songs a fresh twist through various genres, creating an all-new auditory experience—a new X-pop universe.

As part of its ongoing commitment to unique and boundary-pushing music and performances, hiphop/R&B girl group XG has released its new album, XDM Unidentified Waves, which takes its signature sound into an entirely new musical terrain, blending X-pop with innovation.

In this release, XG’s hit songs are given a fresh sonic twist through genres including Jersey Club, Big Room, Future House, Trance, Piano House, and Hard Rock, presenting a multicolored, multidimensional sound pushing the limits of mainstream pop music.

I imagine the album’s title, XDM Unidentified Waves, represents the songs’ rearrangement in “unexpected genres,” setting new standards and introducing a hitherto unheard-of musical depth that draws you into an auditory experience that’s both familiar and unfamiliar.

XDM Unidentified Waves is an ensemble of eight tracks that fluidly transition between the various styles, resulting in a unified and engaging journey that showcases XG’s versatility and creative spirit. The collective’s signature “X-pop” sound, which comes from global influences and embraces a multilingual approach, is accentuated by this genre-bending exploration, cementing XG’s place as a truly influential force in the music industry.

The visual component of this release provides an equally immersive and avant-garde experience. As informed in a release statement—produced entirely using AI—the visualizer offers a fresh interpretation of what the album fundamentally stands for—the themes that are deeply rooted in XG’s overarching narrative and worldbuilding. Recurring motifs such as wolves, space, cells, expansion, evolution, destruction, and awe are woven throughout the visual presentation, creating an overall image that mirrors and certainly underpins the album’s sonic innovation.

XDM Unidentified Waves follows XG’s second mini-album, Awe (Nov. 2024), which musically portrays the essence of what we feel upon experiencing “a new presence,” surprise, and thrills through XG’s songs. This new release, like the sound of Awe, an innovative attempt to lead one to awe and amazement via XG’s music, expands on innovation while stressing the dynamic aspect of XG’s sound.

XG—Jurin, Chisa, Harvey, Hinata, Juria, Maya, and Cocona exemplify the concept of combining elements to create something distinctively unique—a Japanese band based in South Korea that sings in English. The essence finds a fuller expression in this release while reaffirming Xgalx’s (XG’s founding body) identity via the message “New Breed, Breaking Boundaries”—“Crossing boundaries and creating a new culture in our own style.”

By effectively combining different genres and visual elements, XG’s XDM Unidentified Waves cements XG’s distinctiveness in music as well as highlights its solid willingness to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the areas of contemporary music and creative expression.
