‘Yaksha: Ruthless Operations’ in the City of Spies

A merciless leader of an overseas black Ops unit takes on a risky assignment in a city rife with secret agents

Spies, bad guys, and fast-paced fight scenes are all bundled together in a flurry of tight action scenes. That’s Yaksha: Ruthless Operations for you, the upcoming Korean spy action film directed by Na Hyeon of The prison fame, “Ruthless Operations” connoting situations where there is no mercy.

‘Ji Kangin’ (Sol Kyunggu) is the commander of the secret ‘National Intelligence Service’ (NIS) operations squad in Shenyang, China. ‘Yacha’ is his nickname, which relates to a vengeful devil who torments or causes death. Ji is ruthless with an insatiable drive to achieve his objectives. ‘Han Jihoon’ (Park Haesoo) on the other hand, works for the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office. He follows the law regardless of circumstance. Han is transported to Shenyang, China, to conduct a special investigation where he confronts Ji. The film will reportedly feature tense battles between the NIS’s secret operation black squad, prosecutor Han, and agents from other spy organizations. Yang Donggeun, Lee El, Song Jaerim, and Jinyoung (Got 7) will be seen as the squad members ‘Chief Hong,’ ‘Hee Won,’ ‘Jae Gyu,’ and ‘Jeong Dae.’

The teaser poster features a striking image of the black squad led by ‘Yacha’ and prosecutor Han whizzed by bullets, and the poster caption “War of spies who shoot recklessly and deceive” adds to the intrigue stirred by Han, who keeps pursuing the black squad.

The teaser depicts a tense battle between spies in Shenyang. The video, which opens with “This city has the highest density of spies,” depicts the black squad executing a covert operation in a world with unstoppable action and violent conflicts.

In recent years, South Korean films have advanced at an unparalleled rate, with the action genre at its creative helm. Yaksha: Ruthless Operations might as well be a totally powerful experience in this sense, with the characters presenting a series of savage scenes including gunshots, firearms, and carnage, complemented by amazing aesthetics and awesome audio arrangements. I believe the narrative will be wrapped under heavy gunfire, daring stunts, and an all-star spectacle displaying a gory battle by the actors as tough action heroes, as expected after seeing the teaser and the trailer shots. The film is scheduled to release on Netflix next month, April 8th.
