YG Entertainment Confirms BlackPink Member Jisoo’s Solo Debut

YG Entertainment (YGE), home to K-pop superstars Blackpink, has released a press statement confirming Jisoo’s solo debut. The news comes a few days after the singer teased her solo debut on the fan platform, Weverse.
Between the group’s chart-topping album Born Pink’s promotions, an ongoing world tour and the singer’s role as the lead actress on the K-drama Snowdrop ( the OST of which ranked third on our 10 Best K-drama OSTs of 2022 list), Jisoo has been working on the album since last year and carving out the required time to record the tracks. The statement further confirmed that Jisoo has completed shooting her album jacket images and will debut as a soloist this year.
The artist’s solo debut was fated. Since the group’s debut in 2016, members Jennie, Rosé and Lisa have familiarized their fans with their individual sonic styles through their solo records. While Jennie debuted as a soloist with the single “Solo,” Rosé and Lisa’s solo debut records comprised the single albums R and Lalisa respectively. With a crystalline voice fitting for an array of genres, It’ll be interesting to see which route Jisoo takes to exhibit her iridescent sonic style and the stories she chooses to bring to life.
BlackPink have recently completed the European leg of their world tour Born Pink and will begin the Asian leg in Bangkok on January 7th, 2023. It’s being touted as the biggest world tour by a K-pop girl group, spanning nearly 50 shows in 28 cities.
Amidst the changes in YGE’s artist roster and a slew of speculations related to Blackpink’s future at the label, the K-pop hitmakers will not be transferring to The Black Label, the YGE affiliate founded by music producer Teddy. While BlackPink may continue their ties with the label, BigBang members Taeyang and Daesung have ended their contracts with YGE with Taeyang transferring to The Black Label. As for the remaining members of the group, T.O.P was the first to leave the label in February 2022 and YGE is in the middle of contract negotiations with G-Dragon. Despite the switch in label representations, all four members will remain part of BigBang. On the other hand, K-pop group iKON decided to end their contract with the label and move to 143 Entertainment. YGE will also be debuting the rookie girl group Baby Monster this year.
