YUGYEOM Comes To Terms With a Bad Breakup in ‘Take You Down’
The latest digital single features South Korean rapper and label mate Coogie
Dealing with the aftermath of a terrible breakup, singer-songwriter and GOT7 member YUGYEOM unveils a brand new digital single. Titled “Take You Down,” the track features fellow labelmate Coogie and follows YUGYEOM’s June 2021 EP Point of View: U.
Co-written by YUGYEOM alongside Coogie and WOOGIE, “Take You Down” is a smooth R&B track discussing the consequences of unrequited love. Penned from the perspective of a man fully aware of the imbalance of affection in his relationship, YUGYEOM opens the track on a poignant, showing a vulnerable and timid protagonist afraid of losing love; “I knew you are not mine. There is nothing I could do/ I love you the things I said every day/ Please don’t get sick of me/ I beg you, at least pretend.”
On the other hand, Coogie’s breezy rap verse shows a different side- one that’s grateful for the break-up and finding out the true colors of their former partner; “Please leave me alone/ I’m so sick of it/ Deleted all the cheesy songs made for you/ Thick makeup that covered your face/Ended up seeing your bare face under that.”
The trippy music video follows YUGYEOM across three sets- a bathroom stall, a crowded club and finally a living room. In a drunken haze-like state, YUGYEOM looks disoriented, lost and heartbroken throughout the video. Heightened by flickering neon lights, the music video ends with a calm, composed YUGYEOM driving away.
YUGYEOM’s single album Take You Down is further accompanied by a second track. Titled “Lights,” the vocalist is joined by DJ Wegun as the co-writer on the lo-fi R&B track.
Last year, YUGYEOM entered an exclusive contract with leading hip-hop and R&B label AOMG. With plans of growing as an artist, the vocalist released his debut solo EP Point of View: U. Featuring seasoned producers such as GRAY and Cha Cha Malone, Point Of View: U comprises seven tracks–“I Want You Around”, “Running Through The Rain”, “네잘못이야” feat. GRAY, “All About U” feat. Loco, “Love The Way” feat. Jay Park and Punchnello and “When U Fall.” The EP also landed on Rolling Stone India’s 10 Best Korean Hip-Hop and R&B albums of 2021 on the number sixth spot.
