Yugyeom Drops Breezy New Single ‘Ponytail’
The track is produced by prominent South Korean artist Gray and features rapper Sik-K
South Korean R&B artist and GOT7 member Yugyeom has unveiled his latest single “Ponytail.” The track follows the vocalist’s 2022 single “Take U Down” and features rapper Sik-K.
Produced by prominent artist Gray, “Ponytail” is a breezy, laid-back R&B number with infectious guitar riffs and injections of punchy brass. In the lyrics, Yugyeom praises his significant other by complimenting the way she ties her hair in a ponytail and how she’s beautiful no matter what; “Love your ponytail/ You’re so fine my bae/ Breathtaking back/ Makeup on or bare-faced/ Fall in more for barefaced,” he sings, while Sik-K promises to be more attentive, declaring in his verse, “I will be better at showing my interest in you/ Will show it off and make you laugh out loud/ Secret that you wanted to tell me/ I’m all ears, F their opinion off.”
Yugyeom delivers his own take on the current Y2K aesthetic trend in the music video for “Ponytail,” keeping things simple as dancers with vibrant red ponytails walk around him while he sings. Both he and Sik-K perform in front of a massive white backdrop with camera angles and fashion reminiscent of music videos from the early 2000s. The clip also uses a 4:3 aspect ratio, standard in the Nineties and 2000s before widescreen formats became a thing.
“Ponytail” is Yugyeom’s third release after signing with hip-hop giant AOMG in 2021. The vocalist made his solo debut with his first EP Point Of View: U that same year, followed by “Take U Down” and its B-side “Lights” in 2022.
